Mommy keeps referring to Lulu as being 2, but she should just cool her jets – Baby Lulu will not be 2 until January!
She only *thinks* she’s 4. She tries her best to keep up with me all the time, and is even dropping her daytime nap. (This has not been a smooth process; she refuses to nap, but then 2 or 3 times a week she succumbs to sheer exhaustion – usually in the late afternoon, which then messes up bedtime.)
Lulu’s vocabulary has grown by leaps and bounds this month – she jibber jabbers All Day Long, and if she’s not talking, she’s singing. Loudly. She even tells her own version of my favorite Knock Knock joke:
(The real version goes like this: Knock knock. Who’s there? Rude interrupting cow. Rude interrupting c— MOO! Lulu kind of butchers the punch line – but we’ll forgive her because she’s not even 2 yet.)
She *loves* to draw and color, and actually holds a pen correctly. She is cute and charming and pleasant until she is not getting her way, and THEN she has this horrible baby pterodactyl shriek. The terrible twos are going to be interesting around here…
Anyway, lets check in with BabyCenter, shall we?
Mastered Skills (most kids can do)
- Kicks ball forward – Lulu prefers to throw the ball.
- Follows two-step requests (e.g., “Get your doll and bring it here”) – Yes. She understands *everything* you say, and is usually a pretty good helper.
Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)
- Does simple puzzles – Yup. When I let her…
- Draws a straight line – Not sure – she LOVES to draw, but it’s a lot of scribbling.
- Names several body parts – Definitely: eyes, nose, cheeks, chin, knee, hands, fingers, toes, belly, elbow, teeth, head…
Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)
- Puts on loose fitting clothes – Nope.
- Might be ready for a big bed – Probably. Poor girl is something of a bed hopper; she hasn’t slept in her crib for nearly a year, but has no bed of her own, so she alternates sleeping with me and with Mommy and Daddy.
- Understands opposites (i.e. tall vs. short) – Not sure…

Oh, giving up naps! That’s a game changer for sure!
I know – Cole gave them up a month before she was born, and I was so sad! I’d rather her not nap at all than fight it all day and then crash midafternoon and not sleep at night, though.
Thanks for stopping by!
The no naps is just THE WORST!!! I am SO SORRY!!-Ashley
The picture of the two hugging is ADORABLE. And I’m sorry that she’s trying to drop the nap, that isn’t fun at all. Someone told me with my oldest to not call it a nap, call it quiet time and tell him he had to stay for an hour. I would give him some books so the he “didn’t have to sleep”, but most of the time he would sleep anyways.
Of course, that plan might not work with the excitement of an older brother…
