21 Months

Today is my 21 month-day!

Mommy feels like I’ve been doing a lot of growing, lately; I definitely have a strong, stubborn personality. Even though my English isn’t great, I don’t hesitate in making my demands known. At least I say “please” and “thank you” spontaneously when there’s something I *really* want (Dunkin’ Donuts munchkins!). We don’t have any plans to visit Dr. Andy anytime soon, but Mommy thinks I’m getting bigger every day, so hopefully when I weigh in I’m on the charts and everything. I ate nearly an *entire* peanut butter and jelly sandwich yesterday, AND some of Mommy’s soup, PLUS some yogurt, too! I’m in size 4 diapers and (mostly) size 18 clothes (although, in stores where there’s a choice between 12-18 months and 18-24, I still fall squarely in the first category). I just got my new summer sandals and the Stride Rite lady said I’m a size 5.5/6.

I can go on {almost} all the big kid equipment on the playground; Mommy won’t let me go on the giant slides. I still love going to music class and story time and? As of yesterday, I can jump! I’ve been trying (crouching down low and standing up really fast) for while, but yesterday was the first time I got air. You know what? I *love* jumping! I also love telling stories – most of them sound exactly the same: a bunch of gibberish ended by a single clear word. “Yo goya buggy eemo yah gah MILK.”

Time to check in with BabyCenter:

Mastered Skills (most kids can do)

  • Can walk up stairs – Stairs? Yeah, I definitely got that.
  • Able to set simple goals (e.g., deciding to put a toy in a certain place) – I do a lot of things very deliberately, but I’m not verbalizing any sort of plan of attack, so Mommy’s not sure if I’m setting goals…

Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)

  • Throws a ball overhand – Sort of. I can throw it, but straight into the ground.
  • Kicks ball forward – I’m going to be a soccer star! I’ve been able to kick a ball across the room for months now.
  • Stacks six blocks – Definitely. Well, mostly. Grammy Boo got me a set of nesting blocks and I can stack them like a champ – as long as I pick them up in the right size order… but if the tower teeters or falls over, I knock the rest of it over in spite.

Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)

  • Names simple picture in a book – For sure. I love to read and go through my books pointing out all the details in the illustrations!
  • Can walk down stairs – I? am the stair CHAMPION. Probably just because our house is on the 3rd floor, though, and I get tons of practice.
