We’re the kids in America!

Kids in America, Cascada

Is it weird that this is the second time I’ve embedded an mp3 in my post and both songs are on the Clueless soundtrack? Nah… If you can’t see the mp3 player above, by the way, you may need to try using Firefox or something – or just hum to yourself – you know the song!

Looking out a dirty old window.
Down below the cars in the city go rushing by.
I sit here alone and I wonder why.

Friday night and everyone’s moving.
I can feel the heat but it’s soothing.
Heading down, I search for the beat in this dirty town.

Down town the young ones are going.
Down town the young ones are growing.

We’re the kids in America.
We’re the kids in America.
Everybody live for the music-go-round.

Ummmm, I may have gotten slightly off track here… ANYway.

Raise your hand if you know the US Census is being taken this year! (You, with your hand up? You know I can’t actually see you, right?) According to wikipedia,

[t]he United States Census is a decennial census mandated by the United States Constitution.[1] The population is enumerated every 10 years and the results are used to allocate Congressional seats (congressional apportionment), electoral votes, and government program funding.[2] Some states or local jurisdictions also conduct local censuses.

It’s your civic duty, peeps! Buckle up, it’s the law and all that. I can’t wait until I’m old enough to vote and have my voice heard and it’s really important that everyone be counted so that the government can make educated decisions. You know when you were at school or camp and the teacher/counselor blew a whistle so everyone froze? The census is kind of like that – it’s hard to count people when they are all squirming around!

So that will be my PSA for today – take the video and spread the word! And fill in the census when it comes… Also, buckle up. And, for goodness sakes, wear a bike helmet.

And give a hoot, don’t pollute.

Oh, and? Enter my CafePress giveaway. It’s your bloggy duty.

That is all.

  1. I LOVE clueless. Great song choice from an excellent movie.

  2. Great song! 🙂 Now I want to watch the movie… except it's cold and rainy outside and I'm not leaving the house. 🙁

I got something from the census this week and was so excited that I would get to fill out the paperwork I opened it right away. I was sorely disappointed that it was simply the notification letter.

Way to go on being so on top of your civic duties Cole! 🙂
