The Snowy Day

“One winter morning Peter woke up and looked out the window. Snow had fallen during the night. It covered everything as far as he could see.”

The Snowy Day, Ezra Jack Keats

SNOW came overnight in a major way. All of the local schools are closed, so Daddy got to stay home with us even though it is not vacation or the weekend.

They’re calling this storm the “snowpocalypse” in Washington, DC because of how much work it has been to clean up after and how it ground everything there to a halt. They just don’t know how to deal with snow like we do in New York. Daddy says he bets everything will be back to normal here by tomorrow, although he does hope for a two hour delay. He is NOT a morning person like me!

Mommy says if it stops snowing and being so windy then we can put on my snowsuit and play outside for a few minutes, but for now we’re enjoying the very best snow day activity: curling up in bed, my mommy has her alpaca socks on, my daddy is using an alpaca scarf and we are reading a good book. I can’t wait ’til I’m old enough for hot chocolate!

If YOU are snowed in and can take a moment, head over to Jumpstart’s Read for the Record website and vote for this year’s book; you can probably guess which one I picked, but it was a hard choice! The other options are Blueberries for Sal, Make Way For Ducklings, and Peter’s Chair. As an added incentive, the Pearson Foundation will donate $1 to Jumpstart for every vote!
