Quick Tips: Rocking Horse Ranch

Did my recaps of our trip to Rocking Horse Ranch (here & here) make you want to go yourself? Obviously!

First of all, you might want to “like” their page on Facebook: they use it to advertise great specials – yesterday, they posted that if you have a birthday in August or September (::cough:: ME! ::cough::), you can stay free for one night between September 23 and September 25!

Here are a few tips I have to pass along to you – mostly because I still have pics that I didn’t put in my first two posts:

The food during the meals at Rocking Horse is plentiful, and there are enough options for everyone; there are also 2 bars (one in the lobby, one by the outdoor pool) that sell drinks for the parents. That said, if you pick the late dinner (dinner times are 5:30 & 7:30), there could be a long stretch between your meals. If you need a snack, there is free popcorn available at the lobby bar, and there is a complimentary coffee/tea/hot chocolate station that’s open 24/7 and is also stocked with pastries.

There are so many things to do that it’s practically impossible to get to everything (trust me, we tried)! Mommy took the schedule in the morning and marked off everything we wanted to do so that we could plan our whole day. Then we went to the areas that are open for longer hours in between the events we had marked off. We took a paddle boat ride right before dinner on Monday, for example, and headed to the pool for the downtime between watching the horses return to their pasture and the stable tour on Tuesday. I also snuck in rides on Casino almost every time we passed his ring.

Take some down time – even just hanging out in the lobby can be fun, and it’s a lot more relaxing than running from event to event! We had a really great few days, but we tried so hard to pack everything in that we didn’t have much quiet time. Mommy, for example, would have really loved to have fit in some time at the spa!

Even though you might miss out on the pretty summer flowers, Rocking Horse Ranch doesn’t close after Labor Day – Fall Fest and the Ghost Town are getting ready to begin, and they have skiing and tubing in the winter. Daddy can’t wait to take us back!

My friends at Rocking Horse Ranch offered Mommy and Daddy and me a discounted rate for our stay. I did not promise to say nice things about them, nor did they ask me to – and if they had? That’s no guarantee I would have anyway. I am 2 and v-e-r-y contrary.
