22 Months

In TWO months, I will be TWO YEARS OLD. Mommy can’t quite wrap her head around that… and Grammy Boo is in complete denial – she won’t even acknowledge that I’m *almost* two.

Yesterday, Mommy and I met cousin Meredith at Coach and Grammy Boo’s house because she has a truck and was helping us move some stuff to school. Anyway, it was kind of the saddest trip ever; I ran into the house yelling “Coach! Coach! Where are you?” (or, more accurately, “Tsoach! Choke! Whahyoo?!”) But Coach wasn’t home – he was off getting soggy at the Met game. Sad. And *then* I tried to go outside to play on the new swing he hooked up for me (“Baby! Whee!”), but Mommy thought that since there was a crazy storm going on, we shouldn’t go outside. AND that meant I could go on my tricycle either. SAD. I played for a while, though, and then the rain lightened up enough for us to venture to school.

Can I say how much I love going to school?! I *love* running up and down the hallways, and there are usually big kids there to play with. Plus, Lynda in the office always gives me special treats like cake and stickers. This was our last bit of school business until the fall, though, so we said good-bye to everyone for the summer.

So, in the past month, I’ve become increasingly verbal; I run up to Mommy when Daddy and I come back from our walks and tell her what we saw (well, sort of), I *love* chatting at dinner, and I have conversations with Elmo on my play phone. (“Hey-yo?”) Most of these discussions are one-sided since I still don’t know much English and Mommy and Daddy stubbornly refuse to learn my language – although Mommy *can* translate sometimes when necessary. (Mimi = ice cream or penguin, depending on the context, Monty = Thomas (as in the tank engine – we don’t know why), Waw-yer = water, or sometimes flower). Mommy’s favorite part of this new speech is the spontaneous thank yous; I still need to be prompted for please, but anything from opening the door for me to sharing your sandwhich will earn you a sweetly chirped “keck yoo.”

People find those “thank yous” irresistable – I get free food everywhere we go! The people behind the counter at Dunkin Donuts don’t stop at a single munchkin either, they have started giving me bags full! And the man in Subway gave me a whole free cookie.

Those munchkins and cookies? Are filling me up – we don’t go visit Dr. Andy again for about 2 more months, but our home scale puts me at almost 25 pounds. Still wearing size 18 months, and size 5 diapers.

I also finally figured out that my reflection is not some sort of baby stalker – I got paint on myself while I was doing my Father’s Day craft, and when I saw myself in the mirror, I said “Oh NO!” and rubbed at the spots.

Anyway, lets check in with BabyCenter, shall we?

Mastered Skills (most kids can do)

  • Kicks ball forward – For sure – I’m the next Beckham!
  • Follows two-step requests (e.g., “Get your doll and bring it here”) – When I feel like it… sort of like Henry: he totally knows “sit” and “stay” and “come,” but he only follows them when HE wants to.

Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)

  • Does simple puzzles – Yup.
  • Draws a straight line – Not so much. But I *did* request my crayons this week, and actually colored with them rather than nibbling on the tips, so that’s definite progress.
  • Names several body parts – Definitely: eyes, nose, cheeks, chin, knee, hands, fingers, toes, belly, elbow, teeth, head…

Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)

  • Puts on loose fitting clothes – Not really – I’m pretty good at taking my sweatshirts OFF though.
  • Might be ready for a big bed – How would Mommy know that? I kind of like my crib…
  • Understands opposites (i.e. tall vs. short) – I don’t think so – I know hot and cold, and up and down, but Mommy’s not sure if I get the concept of “opposites.”

I’m going to see MICKEY (and Uncle Matt) this week, so I’ll catch up with everyone when we get home on Friday. Have a great weekend!
